Description
What's Up? The land has been sold. The new owners need to demolish the current home and re-build. The new owners have been kind enough to allow time to save the existing house but I have no where to put it. I would like to sell the house to someone who can preserve the entire house or I will remove what wood I can salvage. How can I move the house? Expert House Movers can move anything including the Cape Hatteras Light house. Here is their website: http://www.experthousemovers.com/index.html The House "The Cliffwood" by Pease Woodworking Co. In the 1954, a husband and wife team, built the cabin from a 'kit' as a summer cottage. The house is located at 2717 Poinciana Dr. Virginia Beach, VA in the Cape Story-by-the-Sea neighborhood. The cabin has all knotty pine walls, with a living room, one bedroom on the first floor and one above a now enclosed car port that makes a third bedroom. The foot print is about 30’ by 35’. In the early 90’s an addition was added to the back of the house that probably can't be moved. The entire structure including the 'kit' portion was then wrapped in vinyl. The walls are thick tong and grove knotty pine boards that may be worth as much as $20,000. The knotty pine in one bedroom has been painted white. The wood walls are in good shape and the wood floors are in fair shape. There are nine (9) original wooden windows and the original front door with some original hardware. The original plans identify the cabin as "The Cliffwood" and are dated as revised "1 Jan 54". The kit was designed and fabricated by the Pease Woodworking Co. of Hamilton, Ohio. The Company The Pease Woodworking Co. (Pease Homes Division) 900 Forest Ave. Hamilton, Ohio, is best known for building wooden plywood geodesic dome ‘kits’ for Buckminster Fuller the famous architect. In 1964, Pease Woodworking Co. became part of Pella and they now make Pease Doors. Given the 1954 time frame of construction, this is a very early 'Cliffwood' model. Also, since Pease Woodworking seems to have stopped producing kit homes in the late 1950's this is probably one of the last existing Cliffwood’s. An historic gem! The Deal This historic home is for sale to the highest bidder under the following conditions: 1. Pending the closing of the sale of the lot. Currently scheduled for October 6, 20082. The ‘kit’ portion of the house must be removed between October 6 and November 1, 2008.3. The buyer is expected to get any necessary permits from the City of Virginia Beach. Seller will help where possible.4. The buyer can not remove any trees to move the house. The house may have to be partly disassembled.
